Volunteer Opportunities |
What is EdCaminos?
We are a new non-profit (NGO) that provides free educational services to children and their families in city of San Miguel de Allende, México, operating out of an office located in the Independencia Avenue area. EdCaminos works with primary school-aged children using an after (or before)-school tutoring model, and also provides additional classes (like English) to children and adults of all ages. Our work is important because it provides poor children with much-needed extra help with their education - free of charge - while also providing their parents with an opportunity to obtain skills like English. Our work is organized around semesters within the school year, and we also offer summer sessions. |

Tutors
We
are looking for tutors who can work with young people one-on-one, or in
very small groups, in a structured educational setting. To be a
tutor you must have very good Spanish language skills. Experience
with tutoring and/or teaching is desirable, but not required. We
ask that tutors commit to a period of at least one month.
However, the work schedule is very flexible, since tutoring sessions
generally do not last longer than 1-2 hours per student. Also,
our Director works closely with all tutors to make sure they receive the support they need.

Other Classes
We
are also interested in volunteers who can provide other educational
opportunities to children, adolescents and adults. English
classes are a popular option, but we will consider all kinds of
academic and non-academic activities that can be developed as a class
(or course) for groups, or even just on a one-on-one basis with individual
children. These volunteers should have some basic Spanish language
skills. Experience is not required, but an ability to work
independently is important. EdCaminos staff will help identify
participants for these additional classes, provide supervision on site
and also some support for course design and content (and
materials). But volunteers will be mainly responsible for the
day-to-day work.
