      How You Can Help EdCaminos

At EdCaminos we rely heavily on volunteers to implement a number of our activities.  For example, the after- and before-school tutoring model uses high school students who have to complete a social service requirement in order to graduate, and our English classes are taught by foreign volunteers.  Nevertheless, like most non-profits, our ability to offer these activities year-round does require resources.  What kinds of help are we looking for?  Financial support is clearly important, and helps pay for salaries, rent, internet access and materials.  We are aware that there are many deserving non-profits operating in San Miguel de Allende, and beyond, and resources are limited.  But we can assure all potential donors that your donations will go directly to our operations, as we currently only have one salary (our local director), no central staff, and no administrative costs other than our accountant.

We are not only soliciting financial help.  Below we describe in more detail some of the options that are available for helping EdCaminos.  For more information please feel free to contact us. Thank you for considering us for your support!

  • In México we have registered with the government's CLUNE system, which will eventually allow us to receive tax-deductible donations;
  • At this time we do have a bank account in México where we can receive donations in pesos

Donate Your Time

We are always looking for volunteers to work as tutors or teach classes like English, but we also like to offer non-academic activities related to arts-crafts, music, sports, etc. We are open to having visitors come and share some experience, or work with the kids on something hands-on.  This can be anything that provides them with a new experience.  EdCaminos can provide support with materials, translation, etc.

Organize a Fund-Raising Event

One way to help out is to organize a fund-raising event at your business or home.  We can help by providing materials that explain EdCaminos activities, or perhaps have one of our staff give a short presentation.

Sponsor a Field Trip

Another way to help is to sponsor a field trip to a museum, park, historical site or other venue in the Bajio region (San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Queretaro).  These kinds of day trips can provide an experience for children that they will never forget, in addition to exposing them to cultural and historical activities.

Scholarships for Tutors
EdCaminos provides scholarships for 1-2 tutors to continue their studies at the university level, in return for a modest work commitment.  We select tutors on the basis of the service they have provided EdCaminos, and their academic record.  Donors can help the scholarship program through donations to our general fund (earmarked for scholarships), or they can sponsor an individual student.
